You almost never need to have more columns than you can fit in your head at one time. The way you handle 2000 columns is to make a database for them ! Have you considered storing your data as triplets: row column value 1 first 234 1 second 54.234 1 third 232.41 ... 2 first 432 2 second 23.413 ?
