I run LMS on a similar system (and also on a Pi) but opted to install
Vortexbox and keep my music on a NAS. Why?
Well I wanted something that would rip CDs fairly painlessly which
Vortexbox does as I had made the mistake of opting for 320kbps MP3 at
the outset.
I was already running LMS on a 4 disk Raid 5 QNAP. I kept running into
upgrade issues with the QNAP.
The QNAP is backed up automatically to another at an offsite location.
So I installed Vortexbox onto my old PC and then mounted the QNAP via
NFS.
I upgraded Vortexbox so that it now uses 7.9 and there is an easy
mechanism to upgrade to the latest release as and when I want. Easy
howto on their Forum.
I then hacked the Vortexbox scripts so that everything uses the NFS
mount i.e. I rip straight to the NAS. I think I posted a HowTo on the VB
Forum.
The scanning performance - I have around 25,000 tracks - is fine and in
use you wouldn't know that the server does not have the files locally.
