QNAP do this a fair bit. The way they symlink the folders sometimes changes with a firmware update. After 2 or three of these issues I went with a similar set up to Grumpy Bob's where I run an uptodate LMS on something else and point it at the shares on the QNAP. You can get 7.9 to run on a QNAP but I don't think its worth the effort unless you have a very new QNAP. Transcoding & scanning being issues that older QNAP hardware doesn't like very much. A Pi3 running LMS in piCorePlayer with the QNAP shares mounted via SMB will work very nicely and removes all of these ongoing compatibility issues but leaves the NAS doing what it does best - sharing files.
