I 've got everything running like a dream. Jivelite with nice wallpapers... sound quality through my HiFiberry is exquisite. It was a lot of work but I'll tell you about the week of a total Linux newbie getting things perfect...
1. Logitech Media Server does not currently run on Raspbian Stretch. Don't even try it. You will get very upset. 2. If you want dual boot, then you can't use PiCorePlayer. They've told me they aren't interested in it. However, for me... with my very inaccessible setup, changing SD cards is not an option. I need a proper Debian environment so that I can have all the software that finds and downloads music files, artworks etc... I'd prefer if it were all in one place but like I say, you can't put LMS on a Raspberry Pi 3B+ running Stretch. 3. For dual boot, Berryboot is awesome. It shares some config across different distros... which is essential when, like me, your Pi touch screen is mounted *upside down*. Berryboot takes care of that. Unfortunately PiCorePlayer doesn't support it, so I couldn't try it. 4. So, if you want to install LMS on a Pi 3B+ dual boot, you need to get Max2Play. They have a Berryboot img file that installs perfectly. Then you have to navigate their pretty confusing menus that are constantly berating you for not having bought premium membership... not knowing if the options you have just selected have been executed because you hadn't paid. Note: If you want Jivelite installed through their interface, you have to pay. Unfortunately you can't pay without either having or creating a PayPal account. 5. So a good option is to follow John Hagensieker's guide to install Jivelite on Raspian Wheezy/Jessie... although you're going to do it on Max2Play, and it isn't so straight forward because certain config files are different.
