I agree - if you change the LMS source then no need to change the hosts file as well. Of course ... if you later update the LMS version then the change would have to be done again.
Probably the best solution would be to have a setting in LMS that says to use libre.fm instead of last.fm - or ... more flexible but perhaps more prone to user error would be to put the host name into the plugin settings with the default value being the last.fm host.
