OK so I've done a completely clean install of iTunes imported the files, but did absolutely nothing else to iTunes. I then ran the scan and it completed with no obvious problems.
Then I added a few playlists and did a rescan. Once again it hangs at the albums part of building text index. I can't see anything obvious in the attached logs it just stalls.
