Doing a bit of research, seems there's an arm Perl installed:

Multiple versions, in fact. Not only 5.18.

Why does LMS force the use of Rosetta in start-server.sh?

First of all I wanted to get it working on the new Macs. And that was the easiest way.

I tried to compile modules for the new architecture and Perl version, but failed. Any help would be appreciated.

As Apple has announced to remove scripting support in a future version of macOS I thought that will be the day I'll look into building our own Perl. But until then building for M1 has low priority (though I personally do develop on such a machine!). The number of LMS instances running on M1 hardware currently is negligible.

Is there any danger in removing that forced arch?

LMS won't start any more.
