Only use it for music. Does removing the video scanner help make LMS a more lean mean machine or does it just free up resources to focus on core mission of music?
Removing that feature won't have much of an impact on most installations. It's already pretty much inactive unless you use the UPnP plugin and enable media scanning for some folder.
But it would save me some hassle trying to build the necessary module with all its dependencies for new platforms.
