How about a clarification? When you say that within LMS the device cannot me mounted or scanned, do you mean in setting->basic settings, you cannot browse to where your music is, or scan it? Mine: 37574 blue is my mount path, yellow is the folder path from the mount point. If the answer is yes, @ktp is right, it is not mounted, even though in pCP it might appear that it is. Like he said, make sure the power being supplied by the pi is enough for the drive. I think most pi's can supply 1.2A (total) to all of the USB ports, I would not exceed 80% of this. Also, hopefully your pi power supply is an official one. Btw, I run a 2TB Western Digital Hard Drive on my pCP.
