I'm also experiencing the non-starting issue with the new 8.3 update (also tried the 8.3.1 version). I see a process Perl pop-up in Activity Monitor when LMS starting up but this disappears the moment it stops again. I reverted back to 8.2.1 and that starts up fine.
I'm on a MacMini (mid 2011, 8Gb, 2.3Ghz Intel Core i5) running High Sierra 10.13.6. What information would be useful to have to troubleshoot this @mherger? Would love to get this working since your "There might be changes coming to MySqueezebox.com which will require LMS 8.3 or later.
