I'm also having a very bad connection problems with the squeezenetwork through my squeezebox.
The player appears to connect but then stops responding to the remote control and the screen goes black. The only way to regain control of my squeezebox is to reboot it. I have tried 6.50 and 6.3.1 with the same problem. I hope its not related but I've had network fun with them before.. my ISP is also Plusnet. Lets hope this isn't like the easynews fiasco.
