My SB3 froze on me, too, during one of the maintenance outages for
Squeeze network last week.    Usually, holding down the POWER button on
the remote fixes things.  It started to recycle, but when I came back
and looked a few minutes later, the SB3 display was completely dark.  
I had to disconnect the AC power and restart.
