I've been a paying member since last fall and not had any real problems. In fact I've noticed a marked improvement in load time since the SN updates last week. I use it via wireless connection. I do keep several had backups of my library as I don't feel any online service is in fallible.
For me it is well worth the 30-40 bucks/year it cost, can listen from any computer very easily and don't need my computer on to listen to my tunes via SB.
