Okay I did this. It went very smoothly. SC is easy to install. The only trick was that while my SB found the SC just fine, it hung when it started to update its software. I turned the firewall off on my laptop and that fixed the problem. Evidently the SB initiates its own connection.
I ran Rhapsody with the new firmware over Squeezenetwork for a few hours last night. The problem still occurs but less frequently, maybe once per hour instead of several times per hour. The symptoms are the same: when skipping to a new track, the SB stops playing and loops showing the "Rebuffering..." message over and over again. The only way to get it to stop is to press the track forward button on the remote. The horrible noise is mostly gone, thank god. As another poster mentioned, I only used SC as a vehicle to install the firmware.
