One reason that it's nice to have working from within SC is all your plugins work. For instance, in my setup, I have the IR Blaster plugin installed in SC and it's working as an IR Repeater to control my Blu-Ray player and Receiver that are behind a wood door on our entertainment center (which is actually a sideboard).
