There appears to have been a genuine outage of SN (in Europe anyway)
over the last couple of days, judging from the experience of several
users (including me).  It's all OK now, but the request several people
have made still stands:

-*Please could we have some sort of "SN Status" message on the SN home
page, so we can tell "if it's us, or if it's them" whe SN seems to be
down?*-

Come on, SN people: there's no shame in admitting it's down
occasionally, in fact there's more kudos in making a reliable status
message available on the web, than pretending nothing happened.
