I've updated the firmware on both boxes several times, every time I get
a new SC version. Only with 7.4 do I run into this problem.

I guess I could go back to 7.3.3, but I don't understand why 7.4 would
make both my players unusable?

It almost seems like the firmware file in 7.4/7.4.1 is somehow corrupt
for my players. I finally got everything else working OK with 7.4.1.
