I decided to downgrade. The feature that was missing for me was Pandora. I couldn't seem to get to it without first hitting "My Apps" which in turn seems to want to talk to My SB.com which gave me the ip address error message.
So I'm back to 7.3.4 with no issues getting to Pandora. I can still hit mysb.com via a browser which leads me to think I don't have a dns issue with my network. (But I'm by no means a network expert so of course I can't be sure.)
