I agree it may take a bit of getting used to but iPeng wasn't designed with a primary focus on being the most simple solution but to be the most efficient solution. It's supposed to be used every day over a long time and if you familiarize yourself with it you'll find that in a lot of cases it's much faster to use than the SqueezePlay interface. SP has a deep menu structure and iPeng tries to flatten that by grouping all player controls around the NowPlaying screen (the "dark" ones) and grouping all Music Source items around the main menu (the "light" one). Actually I find your last point interesting, the one about sometimes doing the same thing. I believe you refer to the "back" button on the NowPlaying screen. I suspected that this could be a bit confusing, too, but didn't find any better solution.
