Sorry about that. 

*SBC* = Squeezebox Controller (the remote control part of the Duet)

*ssh* = secure shell, which is a method of logging into the SBC from
another computer, so you can edit files, type commands, etc. To do this
you need to enable Remote Login on the SBC (Settings > Advanced > Remote
Login). And you also have to know what you are doing on the Linux
command line. An alternative to ssh on Windows is to use WinSCP, which
provides a graphical interface for logging into the SBC and modifying
files. 

*which static IP?* It should be an IP that is (a) within the range
covered by your local network, (b) outside the range of addresses
allocated by the router's DHCP server, and (c) not in use by any other
device on the network.

How about option 3? Does your router support reserved IP addresses (aka
static DHCP)?
