Just to update as a side note that the automation of squid builds in my side is moving forward each release. The last time I released binaries It took me 10% of the time from the first time I started automating the build. Currently I am targeting CentOS but Debian and Ubuntu are also on the table for a very long time. Gentoo, Arch and Alpine are almost always on latest so there no much work there from our side. The correct fix I think is to refactor the Auth::Config so that the various global auth* directives can all be stored there. I'm working on that right now.
