You probably need gcc-c++ installed.

What distro are you using?  I've just successfully compiled it on
clean CentOS 6 and 7 machines and the only requirements for
compilation were gcc-c++ and ncurses-devel 

  ie. yum install gcc-c++ ncurses-devel
