Only vague guesses I'm afraid. Could be anything from a fluke 2-peer artifact of "Happy Eyeballs" always makign one peer get the 'unused' connection, through to the way placing any network I/O load on a Squid (ie peer 2) decreases the CPU cycles needed for ICP packets to be read/written from the network, to fast-path optimization in the shared switch routing.
