The general feeling is to use the os which you are most comfortable with. There is also an interesting presentation at : http://conferences.oreillynet.com/presentations/os2002/wessels_duane.ppt Which seems to suggest that freebsd+diskd and linux+ext2+aufs had the best performing file systems. This info could be outdated however. And you may not need this highest level optimum tweaking; this also expects on the number of users (?) expected on using the cache (estimated http reqs/sec ?)
