   - The cache size should be estimated around 1 week
of traffic generated by this community.
This however poses requirements on RAM needed (check the Squid FAQ).

   - Modern even light server hardware will easily handle 2000 users.
My now getting older Compaq ML370 with a fairly old
Linux 2.2 kernel, still laughs at our 1500 user base
Much depends on the avg. http reqs/sec SQUID has to deal with.
In our case that is around 45 reqs/sec during office hours which is
     still rather mild for SQUID.
Runaway browsers and other past incidents have learned me to
extrapolate that even that box + current OS
can probably easily handle 3000 users

   - Next generation light server hw. such as the HP (what's in a name)
DL380 can probably easily handle 5000 users, and is not that expensive
taken into account that the rest is free (SQUID + Linux)

   - As for SquidGuard I had to increase the amount of redirector processes
to 15 for 1500 users, to avoid 'not enough redirector' messages in
     cache.log.

     M.
