Using this method you are indeed prompted at the browser. :-(
It is pretty standard though. You can always save the password so that you only have to hit enter.

i remember trying that a while ago but found i had to put a username and password in each time i opened internet explorer, which looked pretty poor.

are you saying you've managed to get that going without prompting? :-)
