All it ever reported was that the store was 1.5% rebuilt and then it would show it starting back up. Yes, that's correct, it never even reported in the log that it was quiting and re-starting.
Usually this is caused by access.log or store.log (or perhaps cache.log) hitting the magic 2GB file size limit of your OS.
