Please note that HTTP/0.9 client support is purely optional in HTTP proxies and servers these days (and especially proxies, concept didn't exist in HTTP/0.9). The HTTP/0.9 protocol is way obsolete. If you use HTTP as a substrate transport then I would recommend you to go for HTTP/1.1, with optional HTTP/1.0 support if the transport doesn't support 1.1 (i.e. if there is a HTTP/1.0 proxy in the path such as Squid..).
