Intercepting connections (often incorrectly called transparent proxying) has some network-related problems, mostly due to its nature: you lie to the clients. That's why it's much better to allow users configuring a proxy, providing them proxy addresses whenever possible, and use interception as last-resort for cases you can't avoid.
