I'm trying to patch this on FreeBSD, but every time I run make install, it redownloads and extracts the original file over the top of the edited stuff...how do I make it not do that.

Maybe a v1.2.1 should be released with that patch (and perhaps others) included. When I look at the squidGuard homepage, I see v1.2.0 was released on Tue Dec 18 2001. Is that project dead or what ?!
