I solved my problem by loading berkely 3.2.9 and converting squidguard
domain/url files into .db files. Not only does it work, but there is no
more downtime if squidguard fails and it is so fast now!
There`s a patch enabling SquidGuard`s support for berkeley 4. I`ll try to
compile it when I have some time and see if it works. I have to use plain
text bases now and filter`s performance is not very satisfactory.

A version working for berkeley 3 and berkeley 4 is located unter
