Thanks for your response.

I did dowload and installed the mysql module as described on the website but
it does not do any authentication.  I am using Squid-2.5S1.  I am not sure
if I did use the correct procedure in the squid.conf file because squid
gives me an error if I put the commands like it shows on the site.

You can easily use any of the authentication methods.  I use the MySQL
module, and it is wonderful... You can develop tons of wrapper software to
squidguard with php and apache to give quite a nice expierence.
