Which filters plugin?  There is a core filters plugin now which means
as part of the SM download, you get the a filters plugin.

It could be the plugin you are attempting to use doesn't work with
register_globals set to off.

Do you have any caching on your server by any chance? What about
browser? When you log out, then restart your browser, is the option
changed?
