$data_dir is set to "../../../sqmdata/" -- i had to change that myself because of the conf.pl thing with resolving the path name.
I have been using SM for a number of years now and I'm pretty sure (but no one is perfect) I have everything configured the way it should be. I have installed it on both linux and windows machines so I'm pretty knowledgeable on it.
#3 & #4)
there is an option in the setup for the date thing but it didn't effect problem #3. no clues about #4?

my setup: iis 5, win2k, php4 w/isapi module, exchange serverI would guess that this is a setup problem, though it could also be related to the above (as the same directory mod magic is at work here..). Please tell me what config.php has defined for $data_dir, and whether or not you hand edited it (if so, what did running conf.pl put there that you changed.. )
#2) any plugin i add with an option page doesn't work. i added newmail, and when you click on it i got a invalid logo image (not caused be above problem) with:
---[snip]
ERROR
Error opening ../../data/default_pref
Could not create initial preference file!
../../../sqmdata/ should be writable by user httpd
Please contact your system administrator and report this error.
---[/snip]
... "../../data/" isn't even the correct data path, "../../../sqmdata/" is however. i looked through the plugin options and couldn't find anything that stood out. "../../../sqmdata/" is writable, as users can change preferences, login, logout, etc.
#3) when i view my sent items with this version, emails that are dated back from October, 2001 were showing up as if they were just sent today. (sorted by date)At the moment, I'm not sure what to say about these. I think there are optionst to toggle for number 3 (though I can't remember off the top of my head).
#4) not related to 1.4.0 rc2a specificly (did this to me in 1.2.8 as well), but when i was trying to access my deleted items i would get a timeout error. i reduced the amount of messages in the mailbox from 2800+ to about 2000 and now it works. it works, but should there really be a limit on the number of messages you can have in a folder? maybe some way to speed up the search routine?
