I cannot yet comment on your original situation, I am unable to
investigate as I cannot match the system you have yet. There are two
things to note at this moment. PHP 4.3.0 has a security bug in it
relating to the cgi build of it... upgrade it :) Second (also PHP
4.3.0 related), because we've not had much work done with PHP 4.3.0
yet, we currently cannot recommend the use of it. I have a box sitting
at work that is very nearly built, that I will be working on to get
everything caught up to PHP 4.3.0 levels.
