Have you ever looked at a Maildir folder before? The folder you created 'test' *is* inside INBOX. INBOX being the Maildir/ folder, it's mail kept in Maildir/cur, while your 'test' folder is now Maildir/.test and mail is stored in Maildir/.test/cur.
