IMO that's what the "Save Drafts" button is for.

I recommend that in addition to upping the timeout (I have mine set for 40
minutes) you educate your users about the benefits of saving their
compositions if they think it's going to take a while to send it off.

That's what we're doing here. I'm not a big fan of even having the limit
that long - conceivably a user could walk away from the computer without
logging off and another user could use their session. Given that even a
USE (User Stupidity Error) gets blamed on the staff in academia, I'd
rather err on the side of caution and security than to satisfy a few slow
typers or novel writers. Better to save a Vice Presidet, Vice Provost, or
Dean from themselves than deal with the political fallout.

Hmmm. There is an execution timeout directive in PHP, but I've never seen
a problem here with the default setting of 30 seconds. I'd start looking
for commonalities in the reports (Eg: Are the timeouts always with
composing messages? Does setting the folder refresh impact the timeout?)
and go from there.
