Are both the sending and receiving MUA using SM against a non-MS MTA? I've seen this problem when the sending MUA is going against an Exchange server, where the default type for attachments was... damn, I can't remember. Something like Base-64, I think. It was the attachment encoding on the sending end which dropped the byte, and caused a similar problem. -Don
