[SM-USERS] can't get mailbox to send mail

I am new to both squirrel mail and phpnuk.  I bought my domain and my site, and have learned much, but I can't figureout how to get my e-mail box to send mail.  it says I must configure my box.  Also, my host said they don't support relay mail, can someone tell me what this is?  I am going to be running a group for those who suffer from truamatic disorders and I need the boxes for my members.  Can someone help me out here by explaining to me how to set the boxes up and what I may be able to do with them? thank you.
