Without more specifics on your setup, I really couldn't say what might be going on, but it might have something to do with the redirect we request from squirrelmail/index.php to squirrelmail/src/login.php. Depending on your webserver, this might not behave correctly. Some IIS setups won't do the "Location: " header correctly [1], or it might be entirely a browser issue. Have you tested with other browsers?
