After doing some trial & error research I'm beginning to think that the default dir for .abook on this server is not /var/www/squirrelmail-data
Took a user w/no addressbook and put 2 entries in via SM and when I went back and looked via SSH/server side it was still a blank file.
Where else might SM keep that info (note: I also have a ticket into support to see if they can tell me as well...) but I don't know who might know or who might answer first.

According to my hosting provider.. "PHP is run as a CGI for your specific user." and I created a test .abook file from my admin login for the admin user and still don't get an .abook file (unless I use SM to do it 1 by 1...) Is there a work around for this? (also CGI is enabled for my users). I can check but I imagine the old host was the same setup as they use the same reseller software? Even so if I re-create a new file shouldn't that work?
Or does it look like I have to take each account and redo all the info
via the SM interface (which doesn't support a batch add <g> can we add a
feature request <g>)
Did you compare the ownership and flags for a file that you moved and a file created through SquirrelMail? Are there no differences?
Also, there is a abook import/export plugin, so yes, you can do batches on a per user basis.
