Well without more specific information about your setup, we can only
guess. So I'm going to guess you're using UW-IMAP. This kind of issue
occurs when you have a lot of messages in you $HOME directory, the
easy fix is to force the mail into a sub folder like mail/ and set
that as the default folder prefix in the configuration. But that is
just a guess because you didn't specify your setup.
