Hi All,
This is a general pointer for everybody on posting for assistance and
bug reports on any of the SquirrelMail lists, the bug tracker, and
direct contact with any of us, whether relating to SM itself, or just
a plugin issue. This isn't just useful for these lists either... but
ALL lists.
Details are the essence of the issue I have noticed recently on the
lists. People aren't posting enough details. There are a general
guidelines one should follow when posting:
1. Subject
==========
Use a good subject. Putting "help" in the subject is useless.
Something like "connection dropped by imap on login attempts" is
more useful, for you, us, and other people who are having issues.
2. Details
==========
This is the most important part. Details. We developers (not just us
on the SM team, but all developers) love details. Tell us what
version and product you're using of the following:
IMAP Server (ie, courier-imap, uw-imap, Exchange 2000)
PHP (4.3.4, or 4.2.0)
Web server (Apache 1.3.27, or IIS 5.0)
Platform (Debian, RedHat, Gentoo, Windows 2000)
How your software was installed (packages like RPM)
SquirrelMail version (the most important part 1.4.0, 1.5.0,
1.4.3-cvs from March 15th 2004)
Plugins Installed and versions.
Any notes that might make your install different, even if minor
(like you have rewrite rules)
3. Archives and Tracker
=======================
I cannot stress this enough. We have archives and a bug/support
tracker for a reason... so other people can find the information.
But I've found MANY people don't bother looking, or report they
looked but didn't find anything. For those that have forgotten
