Story: I host about 50 domains on my linux server and I'm using SquirrelMail with the vlogin plugin to allow for one installation of SM to be used by all the domains. I installed SM to a directory of it's own and pointed anydomain.com/webmail to that directory.
At first, I tried running a ScriptAlias in my httpd.conf file to point to the local directory where SquirrelMail was installed. This only barely worked. Plugins weren't being incorporated and changes I made to the login.php file weren't taking.
I changed ScriptAlias to just Alias. Still No Dice
I changed a global Alias to Aliases in each one of my <VirtualHost>'s. Same results. Plugins were just not working.
I tried SymLinks with the FollowSymlinks option turned on. Still nothing.
I finally copied the entire install underneath a DocumentRoot for one of my domains and everything magically started working, plugins included.
Why won't SM work if you don't physically locate it under a DocumentRoot?
