I've installed the SquirrelMail 1.4.1 package that comes with SuSE 9.0.
Configuration seemed straightforward, and I've read everything I can
find in the FAQ and list archives about its behavior with Eudora
Internet Mail Server. It seems that some EIMS administrators have had
success in eliminating the problem with blocks of unreadable messages
marked "Unknown Date" and "Unknown Subject" by turning off UID support
in the SquirrelMail prefs, as suggested in the FAQ. I have done that,
but I still have that problem. Interestingly enough, I don't have any
of the other problems I've seen mentioned in past posts from EIMS
users, such as all message listed as unread. SM is working well for me
in every other respect.

I'm using EIMS v. 3.1. Has anyone had success in completely fixing the
EIMS + SM issues, or should I just give up on SM until I've migrated to
a Linux-based mail server (something that is in my immediate future
anyway)? I need a more powerful and reliable mail server before I can
use IMAP with all of my users. I'm only trying to provide Webmail
relief for a few of my users who are using AOL and MSN.

Thanks for any help.

Hi Dale I'm running SquirrelMail 1.4.2 on MacOS X 10.2.8, PHP 4.3.4 versus
EIMS 3.2.3 on MacOS 9.2.2, with more or less 1500 users (700 on IMAP), no
problem at all very robust and fast solution.
First of all upgrade to SM 1.4.2, previous version 1.4.x didn't work with
EIMS, then just check following settings:

$imap_server_type       = 'other';
$optional_delimiter     = 'detect';
$default_folder_prefix          = '';
$trash_folder                   = 'Trash';
$sent_folder                    = 'Sent';
$allow_thread_sort        = false;
$allow_server_sort        = false;
$uid_support              = false;
$draft_folder                   = 'Drafts';

Have a good one Fabio

Thank you, Fabio.

I downloaded and installed SM-1.4.3 on a different machine with the same result. I see blocks of 10 or more messages marked "Unknown date (no subject)" in exactly the same places in my inbox where they are displayed in the SM-1.4.1 version.

I'm running apache-1.3 and php-4.3.3 on SuSE 9.0 and EIMS Server 3.1.1d on MacOS 9.0.4. I note that you are running EIMS 3.2.3. I wonder if my older version of EIMS could be the culprit.
