i've been using SM 1.4.2 without much trouble for the last 2 - 3 months now. suddenly last night around 2 am the login page started hanging for a few minutes before it starts the imap authentication. i checked the logs - nothing there - restarted servers - web (apache 1.3) and imap (courier) and even downloaded sm 1.4.3a just to test the sm<=>imap connection. everything seems to be normal.imap authenticates users very fast if i use either a non-web client or the test installation of SM 1.4.3a. so it's definitely SM somewhere. php is fast too - i checked... users that use safari are specially affected because that browser times out the connection after 60 sec. and right now authentication takes about 3 - 4 minutes?!.
The only thing I can think of is from a recent thread where the problem was caused by the fact that other users were accessing IMAP via other clients and the solution was to increase the number of allowable connections in courier. IIRC, MAXPERIP is the setting you're looking for in the imapd config file. Otherwise, search the archives in the last week.
