You *could* write an advanced filter to do this, especially if you use server-side filtering software (you give no system specs, so I have no idea - please read http://squirrelmail.org/wiki/wiki.php?MailingListPostingGuidelines ).
Except that, as I specified at the beginning of my question, I am not a programmer. Not to be rude, but just honest, seriously, if I *could* program such a thing, I wouldn't be here asking about it - I'd have already programmed it and would be out there trying to market it.
Too bad you would be marketing it instead of contributing it back to the community from which you've benefited for free.
My point was that although writing an advanced filter for your purposes was technically feasible, it was not something I (nor most other people) would want to walk you through when you should be going with a much more robust anti-spam system like SpamAssassin.
Re: posting guidelines - all I can say is that I asked a somewhat general question because, if the answer is "No, what you're asking can't or hasn't been done", then the details of the server are irrelevant. OTOH, if the answer is "Yes, there are such things", *then* I can provide appropriate details and further investigate its potential applicability.
And I told you that we can't give you good answers until you post that information.
BTW - if the email program freezes up (as do SquirrelMail, Eudora, and Outlook) due to volume, then any spam-deletion program which piggybacks onto the email-retrieval program can't function. So, sorry, that is not the 'real' solution and doesn't answer the question.
You are misinformed. This is in fact the "real" solution because something like SpamAssassin is typically integrated into your MTA (the SMTP server that originally accepts your email on the server). It is never integrated into an email client such as SM, Outlook, etc. If you are not the server administrator, you'll have to refer to that person, as we cannot help you install such software as an end user.
SquirrelMail evidently can't accomidate this sort of simple "delete all except" function and this was therefore the wrong place to ask about this. Sorry for the bother...
SquirrelMail is a client that is part of your entire email system, which can probably do something like that, but again, that is a bad approach that is far inferior to a real server-side spam solution. Please understand how that system works better (or ask nicely) before projecting your frustrations back at people who are helping you for free.
