Dear List

I received the email below from Stuart Prescott.

He has pointed out one aspect that may be revealing - the PDFs with
the problem seem to have embedded graphics/images.

One user reported a problem with a gif attachment.

Corruption occurs when viewing directly in SM or saving file to disc and
then trying to view file.

Thanks
Stephen Carr

Hi Stephen,

I saw your recent post on sourceforge and have just spent the last two
days fighting squirrelmail for precisely the same reasons.

> Users reported only some PDFs had the problem.

I suspect it is actually some email clients rather than pdfs. (Although
I had fewer problems with text-only PDFs than with ones that had images)

My problem seems to be related to SM not including a correct MIME type
for the PDF (It's using "/" which is illegal in the mime-type RFC) and
my mailer (Evolution) was assuming that meant text/plain. Result:
corrupted attachment.

I've filed a bug against evolution for this behaviour:

        http://bugzilla.ximian.com/show_bug.cgi?id=63406

And I would do so against SM if I could work out how.

Feel free to pass this email onto one of the SM developers if you know
of one from the mailing list.

regards
Stuart
