only serversidefilters v.1.4x need UW_IMAP libraries, because SUID binary uses IMAP authentication. v.1.3x use squirrelmail imap functions and php ftp functions.
plugin depends uw-imap libraries that are sometimes called c-client libraries and they don't require UW-IMAPd installed. You can have courier-imap server and c-client libraries/headers installed on same machine. problems with serversidefilters 1.4x can happen if you are unable to compile that filtercmd script on Solaris. Plugin developer might be glad to hear any constructive feedback from you.
