Please respond on-list, thanks.
thanks for your speedy response. this was an easy fix. curiously, dovecot and postifix complain about a file :/var/mail/maw logs: dovecot is default configured to log errors to syslog. it reports: Oct 13 09:44:36 testy imap(maw): File isn't in mbox format: /var/mail/maw Oct 13 09:45:29 testy last message repeated 3 times Oct 13 09:47:17 testy last message repeated 6 times
postifix logs to maillog and reports: Oct 13 16:56:48 testy imap(maw): File isn't in mbox format: /var/mail/maw Oct 13 16:56:48 testy imap(maw): File isn't in mbox format: /var/mail/maw
when i went to the file all seemed normal except that the letter "F" was missing from the word, "From" at the beginning of the header for first message in the mailbox as follows:
rom [EMAIL PROTECTED] Mon Dec 1 09:57:28 2003 Return-Path: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> X-Original-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Delivered-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Inserting the letter "F", restarting dovecot, and, voila, the inbox in squirrelmail is back to normal.
Is this a bug and is it worth reporting? I don't understand how deleting email using the squirrelmail web interface could corrupt a file.
This is not a bug with SM. It could be a bug in your IMAP server, but who knows. Report it or ask around the dovecot world. I would also strongly recommend that you move to the more robust and efficient maildir format if at all possible.
Cheers,
paul

1. Subject ========== I deleted several hundred emails from my inbox after which my inbox ceased to display and instead shows a message (ERROR : Could not complete request. Query: SELECT "INBOX" Reason Given: Internal error).
2. Details ========== (Unix) mod_perl/1.99_16 Perl/v5.8.3 mod_ssl/2.0.47 OpenSSL/0.9.7c DAV/2 PHP/4.3.8 * IMAP Server (dovecot) * PHP (PHP Version 4.3.8) * Web server (Apache/2.0.47) * Platform (Fedora Core 2) * How your software was installed (rpm) * SquirrelMail version (version 1.4.3a) * Plugins you've installed and their versions (none). * Any notes that might make your install different, even if minor (configured with perl script after update from SquirrelMail version 1.4.1)
3. Error Messages =================
ERROR : Could not complete request. Query: SELECT "INBOX" Reason Given: Internal error
4. Archives and Tracker Search of Archives and Tracker did not show a similar report. Wiki did list several different issues related to deletion of emails and i added my error message to that collection.
Thanks very much for using the posting guidelines. Unfortunately, you'll need to look at your log files to get better information on this problem. "internal error" suggests that the IMAP server is having trouble with something after your attempted deletion. You might try cycling the IMAP server and making sure you log out and back in to SM.
